Félix Tshisekedi accused Rwanda of infiltrating and weakening the DR Congo army, saying it contributed to military setbacks in eastern DR Congo. During a press conference, he claimed Rwanda has delayed peace efforts in order to continue benefiting from Congo’s natural resources.
Rwanda denied the accusations, including claims that it supports armed groups or sends troops into DR Congo.
Tshisekedi said restoring peace through diplomacy is his main priority before leaving office, but hinted he could consider staying beyond his second term in 2028 if the Congolese people request it through a referendum.
He also criticized former president Joseph Kabila after the United States sanctioned him over alleged links to rebel groups such as AFC/M23, which captured the cities of Goma and Bukavu.
Tshisekedi added that the timing of future elections will depend on how quickly the conflict in eastern DR Congo is resolved.
