A woman in Ethiopia’s Harari Region has given birth to five babies at once after spending 12 years trying to have children.
Thirty-five-year-old Bedriya Adem welcomed four boys and one girl at Hiwot Fana Specialised Hospital in what doctors described as a rare and remarkable birth. The babies are all reported to be in good health despite being born prematurely and weighing between 1.3 and 1.4 kilograms.
Bedriya said she and her husband were overwhelmed with happiness after years of sadness and failed attempts to conceive. She explained that she could not fully describe her joy, adding that she finally feels blessed after many years of prayers and hope.
Doctors at the hospital said both the mother and the babies remain under close medical supervision. Chief medical officer Mohammed Nur Abdulahi noted that babies born above one kilogram usually have a stronger chance of survival and healthy growth.
The hospital also confirmed that the pregnancy happened naturally without the use of IVF or any assisted reproductive technology, making the case even more unusual.
