Burkina Faso Suspends 247 NGOs Over Administrative Violations

Authorities in Burkina Faso have suspended the operations of 247 non-governmental organizations (NGOs), according to an announcement from the Ministry of Public Service, Labor and Social Security.

In a statement, the ministry said the affected associations were suspended effective May 12, 2026, for failing to renew their governing bodies in line with their statutes, internal regulations, and existing national laws.

The suspended organizations operate in several sectors, including health, education, women’s rights, agriculture, environmental protection, culture, and sports.

The ministry added that each organization will only be allowed to resume activities after obtaining an official renewal certificate.

The latest move comes months after Security Minister Mahamadou Sana announced the dismantling of an alleged espionage network linked to the Netherlands-based NGO International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO).
