Barcelona Defeat Real Madrid 2-0 to Clinch 29th La Liga Title

In a Clásico heavily affected by key absences on both sides, FC Barcelona delivered a dominant performance to defeat Real Madrid 2-0 and secure their 29th La Liga title.

Although the match was not among the most highly anticipated Clásicos in recent years, it carried enormous importance for Barcelona. A victory over their greatest rivals would not only humiliate Madrid but also officially crown the Catalan club as champions of Spain once again.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, who had suffered the loss of his father just hours before kickoff, made several notable changes to his lineup. Ferran Torres started ahead of Robert Lewandowski, partnering Marcus Rashford and Fermín López in attack, while Eric Garcia replaced Jules Koundé at right-back. Raphinha, returning from injury, began on the bench, and Lamine Yamal was unavailable as expected.

On the other side, interim coach Álvaro Arbeloa had to cope without several important players, including Kylian Mbappé, Federico Valverde, Éder Militão, and Arda Güler. Madrid relied on an attacking trio of Brahim Díaz, Gonzalo García, and Vinícius Júnior, while Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Eduardo Camavinga started in midfield.

Barcelona quickly took control of the game with their aggressive pressing and superior organization. Marcus Rashford opened the scoring in the 9th minute with a stunning free-kick curled into the far corner, sending the Camp Nou crowd into celebration. Madrid struggled to respond, and Barcelona doubled their advantage just nine minutes later. João Cancelo found Dani Olmo inside the box, and the Spaniard brilliantly set up Ferran Torres with a backheel pass for an easy finish past Thibaut Courtois.

Despite the scoreline, the tempo of the match was not particularly intense, and Barcelona’s defense occasionally looked vulnerable. Gonzalo García and Vinícius Júnior both threatened, but Madrid lacked sharpness and creativity. Barcelona, meanwhile, looked far more committed and energetic, dominating the midfield through Pedri, Gavi, and Dani Olmo.

Before halftime, Rashford nearly scored a second goal after a superb pass from Ferran Torres, but Courtois produced an excellent save. Dani Olmo also came close moments later. At the break, Barcelona fully deserved their two-goal advantage.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Barcelona comfortably controlling possession while Madrid appeared lifeless and uninspired. Tempers occasionally flared, resulting in bookings after an altercation involving Dani Olmo and Raúl Asencio. Courtois prevented the score from becoming more embarrassing with several outstanding saves, particularly denying Ferran Torres, Raphinha, and Lewandowski.

Madrid never truly looked capable of mounting a comeback and produced one of their poorest performances of the season. Barcelona, meanwhile, managed the game professionally and confidently until the final whistle.

With the victory, Barcelona officially secured the La Liga crown for the second consecutive season under Hansi Flick. After an outstanding campaign, including a perfect record of 17 wins from 17 home matches, the Catalan giants were deservedly crowned champions of Spain once again.
