Corneille Nangaa, coordinator of the AFC/M23 alliance, has criticized recent remarks by Félix Tshisekedi suggesting he could seek a third presidential term through constitutional changes.
Speaking at a press conference last Saturday, Nangaa accused Tshisekedi of repeatedly misleading the public and blaming others for the failures of his leadership. He claimed the Congolese president often shifts responsibility to Rwanda, former President Joseph Kabila, or the ongoing conflict in eastern Congo.
“Tomorrow he will come back and apologize, saying he knew nothing,” Nangaa said mockingly. “Don’t even be surprised if one day he says he didn’t know he was president.”
Nangaa also challenged Tshisekedi over plans to amend the Constitution, saying, “If he is a man, let him do it.” He added that the AFC/M23 alliance is calling on all political parties, civil society groups, opposition figures in exile, and even members of the ruling coalition to unite against the government.
According to Nangaa, the AFC/M23 movement should not be viewed as a rebel or terrorist group, but rather as a “liberation and revolutionary movement” fighting for change across the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He insisted that their struggle goes beyond territorial disputes and is aimed at defending all Congolese people regardless of ethnicity.
During his latest press conference on Wednesday, Tshisekedi accused Rwanda of destabilizing the Congolese army and hinted that he could consider seeking another term if the Congolese people requested it.
