Militants attacked a convoy of Moroccan trucks carrying fruit on the road between Bamako and Bougouni, about 175 km from Mali’s capital.
A transport union member said the trucks were fired on, but the condition of the drivers is still unknown. Authorities have not confirmed the attack, and no group has claimed responsibility.
This comes after a major wave of coordinated attacks last month by Islamist militants linked to al-Qaida (JNIM) and separatist rebels (FLA). They have recently taken control of several towns and military positions, marking one of the worst security crises in Mali since 2012.
